Kyoto Gakuen University is a medium-sized University established in 1969.
Our university is aiming to educate persons so they can subjectively generate information and solve problems creatively. With this ability, they will build a rich society while carrying forward the long accumulated cultural heritage of our country and also maintain harmony with other cultures in the coming age of increased globalization.
The number of students is about 3,000 students and therer are 200 staff members.
The number of foreign students is 77 Undergraduate students and 10 Graduated students.
We have 16 exchange students for this semester.

Faculty of Economics
Economics is the foundation of all human activities. Various values such as resources, money, information, trust and work are circulating by the law of supply and demand. To study these economies is to study the flow of value in our society. Modern society has become so complex that we need tools to make certain predictions about the future.
We have a special curriculum called ‘career training program’ for accommodating individual student needs. Students can deepen their knowledge in special fields and can also improve their abilities in communication, theoretical thinking and problem solving.
In autumn of the second academic year, students choose one of the following courses: Society and Social Policies, Economics and Information, or Finance. While studying these professional courses, students can register to attend a teacher training course and can get a teaching license for primary and high school level.
Faculty of Business Administration
In the Faculty of Business Administration, we strive to create well-rounded, competent business men and women, rather than just teach the standard business curriculum. Not only do we teach management and business, but we also train the students’ comprehension skills, expressive skills and creativity.
Having multiple courses to choose from makes the students clarify what they want to learn. The four courses lead the students to be good business-people. Students can get the following licenses in this faculty: High school teacher license, health exercise instructors, recreation instructors, librarians, museum curators and Japanese language teachers.
Faculty of Law
To solve various problems in the modern society, the legal system is essential. This faculty was established in 1989 based on the principle of “Business Law” to foster a talented person who can solve problems on legal issues. We have four courses, which are lawer course, police fireman course, public servant course and private company course.
Faculty of Human and Cultural Studies
In this faculty, students can research the interconnectivity between people and study the human mind. Students will examine society of human life, communication with overseas people, and history and culture.
Department of Psychology
Our educational goal is to foster talented people who are flexible and can deal with problems as they arise in everyday situations. The students need to learn basic technical knowledge and research methods.
Department of Media
In general, due to the complexity of our society, we need to have deeper understanding of the media fields which have become more important in recent years. Therefore our aim is to foster talented people who have deep insights into the movement and structure of society.
Students have access to highly sophisticated facilities and equipment during their studies. In this faculty, the students can learn not only Sociology but also Media Studies. Using theories of Sociology and research, we try to analyze our complex society.
Department of Japanese History, Folklore, Language and Culture
Major in Folk History
Not just reading books in classes but also going on field trips and conducting interviews to acquire a deep understanding of Japanese mythology. It is possible to learn History and Folklore from the Culture of Spectrology.
Major in Japanese History and Culture
Students can improve their Japanese language and Japanese culture through the enjoyment of classical and traditional performing arts.
Department of International Human Studies and Communication
The meaning of human communication is ‘the power of words’ and ‘body language’. There are four courses that develop communication skills and internationalism as follows: ‘English Communication Course’, ‘Beauty and International Liberal Arts’, ‘Secure Society and Environment Course’ and ‘International Kyoto Studies Course'.
Faculty of Bio-environmental Science
There are two departments in this faculty. One is the Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology which creates biotechnology which is mindful of the environment and health.
The other is The Department of Bio-environmental Design. This department seeks to foster researchers and eco-technicians who can address environmental problems using natural mechanisms.
